Feeling the Draft 2014

Yours Truly's two cents of the way overdue NFL Draft starting tomorrow:

- The Houston Texans will throw a curveball and select Teddy Bridgewater as the first overall pick, surprising everyone. Bridgewater is the most consistent quarterback in the draft and his dismal showing at his pro day will do nothing to diminish his draft stock. The talks all along have been the Texans targeting either Jadeveon Clowney or Khalil Mack as the top pick. Yours Truly doesn't think the Texans would be wise to commit big money to two players at the same position in Clowney and J.J. Watt, and Mack sounds too much like Aaron Curry to Your Truly, a so-called consensus safe pick from a relatively small school in 2009 who turned out to be a bust.

- At number two, the St. Louis Rams cannot believe its luck and will select Clowney, the best player in the entire Draft.

- The Jacksonville Jaguars will have to go for offense. Given that Justin Blackmon's tenure as a Jaguar is now likely over, they will have to grab the best wide receiver on board in Sammy Watkins.

- The Cleveland Browns, at number four, are in an interesting situation. Two years ago, they had two first-round picks and went with RB Trent Richardson at number three, and then QB Brandon Weeden at number 22. Neither of them panned out. At the moment they have two first-round picks at 4 and 26, and Yours Truly thinks that they will go offense again this year, but with a QB first. Their choice will be Johnny Manziel, the do-everything signal-caller from Texas A&M.

- For the fifth pick, the Oakland Raiders will have to find an OT to replace the departed Jared Veldheer. Their pick would be Jake Matthews, son of Hall of Famer Bruce.

So to recap:

1. Teddy Bridgewater, QB, Houston Texans
2. Jadeveon Clowney, DE, St. Louis Rams
3. Sammy Watkins, WR, Jacksonville Jaguars
4. Johnny Manziel, QB, Cleveland Browns
5. Jake Matthews, OT, Oakland Raiders
